Commit Your Way to the Lord

Hallelujah! A special welcome to our graduates and families on this Senior Sunday. We have watched these young people grow up healthy and strong through school and KidsZone. Today, we thank God and celebrate their hard work and upcoming graduation. Let’s give a big round of applause to our graduates, their dedicated parents, and our teachers to show our appreciation.

Graduation is a joyful milestone because it brings anticipation for a fresh chapter. Graduates, what are your dreams? Some are excited for no more tests and sleeping in. Others plan to find a job, gain financial independence, or major in something they love at college.

When I graduated high school, I headed to college with grand ambitions of becoming an economist who would change the nation. Back then, I thought I had life totally figured out. But looking back, I realize I knew nothing at all. It reminds me of a seven-year-old child at a Korean church who stood up to share a testimony and confidently began, “When I was young…” Everyone laughed because it was adorable. What does a seven-year-old know about life? The same applies to you today. High school graduation is a beautiful achievement, but it is just the first step toward your higher education or career.

Today, I want to share a secret you won’t learn in school—the secret to living a truly blessed and successful life. What is the purpose of life? Where are we going? Many people chase their dreams without ever answering these questions. But does working hard automatically guarantee happiness? No, because the road ahead is filled with challenges.

People say life is like a voyage. On a voyage, the most important tool is the compass because it points you in the right direction. A voyage isn’t always smooth sailing on a calm sea; you will face violent storms where your own strength simply isn’t enough.

That is why Psalm 1 declares the secret to a blessed life: “Blessed is the man… whose delight is in the law of the Lord.” True happiness comes from a God-centered life, not a self-centered life. As today’s passage in verse 5 says: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn.”

K-12 education gives you a basic outline, a broad map. But to navigate this complex world, you need an accurate, detailed guide. You need wisdom, not just knowledge. Knowledge is information, but wisdom is the discernment to judge what is right. Wisdom comes from obeying God’s Word.

Can you just rely on AI for this? No. AI is full of factual errors and lacks truth. In this 21st-century information age, we are drowning in a flood of information and skepticism. To become wise leaders who guide society correctly, you must seek true wisdom.

Remember: “Commit your way to the Lord.” When you trust Him, He will fulfill His plans for you—plans Jeremiah 29:11 describes as “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

As you step into the world, do not fear. Commit your path to God, trust Him, and obey. He will protect you and make you a light that illuminates the world.
