The Reality of the Resurrection

Hallelujah! Jesus is risen!! The resurrection of Jesus is the most unprecedented event in human history. After being executed and buried, He rose on the third day, leaving His burial cloths neatly folded. This detail refutes the claim that the body was stolen; thieves fleeing Roman guards wouldn’t have paused to tidy the tomb.

At the time, the disciples were paralyzed by sorrow and fear, even dismissing reports of the empty tomb as “nonsense.” Yet today, 2,000 years later, we believe. Through the Word and the Holy Spirit, we know the truth.

The Significance: Victory Over Death

[1 Corinthians 15:55-57] asks, “Where, O death, is your victory?” By nailing the law to the cross, Jesus stripped sin of its power and death of its sting. Now, anyone in Christ can live a life of victory—“Jesus’ victory is my victory.” We may fail in our careers or relationships, but we must win the spiritual battle. As [2 Peter 2:19] warns, we are slaves to whatever masters us. We cannot defeat the devil through our fallen nature; we need the faith that overcomes the world [1 John 5:4]. Through His resurrection, Jesus proved He is God who conquers death, making all His promises trustworthy.

From Knowledge to “Being Faith”

In John 11, Jesus intentionally arrived late to heal His friend Lazarus. He told His disciples that this delay was for God’s glory. Meanwhile, Martha and Mary were devastated. When Jesus arrived, Martha said, “If you had been here, my brother would not have died.” When Jesus promised, “Your brother will rise again,” Martha replied with a doctrinal “knowing”: “I know he will rise in the resurrection at the last day.” Like many today, she had a theological belief, but it wasn’t enough to heal her current despair.

Jesus then challenged her:

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

In that moment, Martha moved beyond “Knowing Faith” (theology) and “Doing Faith” (miracles) to “Being Faith”—an absolute trust in the identity and existence of the Creator Himself. She realized that since Jesus is the source of all life and transcends time, having Him present meant having eternal life now.

Conclusion: Living the Resurrected Life

To experience Jesus’ victory as our own, we must mature into this Existential Faith. It is a trust born of an intimate relationship. When we possess “Being Faith,” we don’t panic at the edge of a cliff. Instead, we wait with expectation, trusting our Creator’s timing.

Jesus endured the shame of the cross and the depths of hell to represent us, and He was made alive to secure our resurrection. Jesus’ Cross is my Cross; His Resurrection is my Resurrection; His Victory is my Victory! Right now, right here, those who live by this faith will never die. No matter the hardship, we overcome by the Spirit of Christ within us. May you daily enjoy this cosmic victory by growing in complete, existential faith.
