Then You Will Be Successful

Hallelujah! Lately, our Monday Bible study has been exploring the Book of Joshua. Today, I want to share the secret of victory God gave Joshua as he faced the daunting task of conquering Canaan. My prayer is that we all find the strength to overcome the fierce spiritual battles in our own lives. Amen?

3,500 years ago, two million Israelites stood at the edge of the Jordan River. After 40 years of wandering due to disobedience, the time had finally come to enter the Promised Land. But they faced a crisis: their great leader Moses was dead. Joshua, who had served as Moses’ humble assistant for 40 years, was now the leader. Ahead of them lay a flooding river and fortified cities guarded by warrior tribes.

(Q) How do we overcome such massive obstacles?

First, remember that God fulfills His promises through His Word, not human “superstars.” He doesn’t look for someone with power; He looks for someone who will simply obey in faith. God personally called Joshua, a man well-trained in fearing and following the Lord, and gave him a monumental mission: “Lead my people across the Jordan.”

God promised in verses 2-3: “I will give you every place where you set your foot.” What a beautiful promise! But this wasn’t a walk in the park. Joshua had to lead millions of people and livestock across a rushing river and fight for every inch of land. Though Joshua was a man of courage, the weight of responsibility must have been immense.

That is why God told him in verse 7: “Be strong and very courageous.” How? Verse 8 gives the secret: “Meditate on this Book of the Law day and night… Then you will be prosperous and successful.” The “Moses Era” of watching miracles from the sidelines is over. The “Joshua Era” is a new season of conquering ground through the power of the Word. We are the “Joshua Generation.” We cannot win through human strength; we need “being faith”—a soul-level trust that clings to the Word even when we cannot see the outcome. Amen?

The Lord settles it in verse 9: “Have I not commanded you? … Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Because God commanded it, the victory is guaranteed. Joshua obeyed, took the land, and gave the tribes their inheritance.

(Q) Where is our Promised Land today?

Physical Canaan was never the final goal. God’s ultimate promise is eternal rest for our souls in Heaven. While on earth, He wants us to experience His Kingdom—peace, joy, and rest—within our own hearts. Legally, we have won this land through Jesus, but many of us haven’t “occupied” it yet. It’s like moving into a new house while the old, toxic tenant refuses to leave.

In our hearts, those “tenants” are spirits of doubt, jealousy, pride, and greed. If we don’t uproot these from our inner land, we will never find true rest. We must forcefully push back the darkness and let the Holy Spirit rule our hearts.

How? By meditating on the Word day and night. Use it like a mirror to repent and a sword to drive out lies. True prosperity is not worldly wealth; it is having God as your shield and reward, growing into the image of Christ. If you trust and obey like Joshua, the Lord will fight for you.
